Learn a timeless skill as you face a series of creative challenges in this practical introduction to sewing.

During this six-week course you’ll learn how to use a sewing machine, develop designs on paper and on iPads, and start working with textiles. You’ll also use your new skills to create several finished projects.

Whatever the challenge you’ll always have the chance to indulge your creativity. For example, if you are making a tote bag, you might be following a pattern, but you’ll stamp your personality all over it: give it ears, or a tail, splash paint across it…

Activities will vary, but might include:

• Make a cushion cover, tote bag, wash bag, or pencil case.

• Make a soft toy or an item of clothing.

• Transformation challenge: turn an unwanted piece of clothing into something completely different.

• Use an iPad to design a collection of outfits. What would your fashion house be called?

• Learn skills like fabric painting, pom pom & tassel making, or embroidery & appliqué.

Our 8-11 age group will focus on building their confidence with simple but satisfying projects, while the 11-15 group will try their hand at working with more elaborate briefs and designs.

Develop your sewing skills further after half term with our advanced Sewing Bee course, in the same Wednesday evening slot.
